Container Inspection Reveals Surprise

A container shipped to Sri Lanka from Italy claiming to contain "personal effects" of five passengers, was inspected by officials of the Revenue Task Force Customs Customs Orugodawatta in the yard today. Officials found that the vessel also contained commercial products declared not including 78 bottles of liquor, 37 bottles of wine and 5,000 kilograms of pasta. 

The items had been imported misuse of tax-free concessions granted under the passenger baggage allowance. The evaded payment, according to Sri Lanka Customs, amounting to over Rs.1.13 billion.
